As an experienced policyholder attorney, he advocates on behalf of corporate and individual insurance policyholders throughout the United States in contested claims, and counsels clients in complex insurance advisory matters.

Daniel Struck is a partner in the Chicago office of Culhane Meadows and is part of the firm’s Insurance and Litigation Practice Groups. Dan advocates on behalf of corporate and individual insurance policyholders throughout the United States. Dan has represented clients in insurance coverage litigation and advocated on behalf of insureds in contested claims across the country, successfully securing the payment of defense costs, indemnification and first-party losses under a wide variety of circumstances.

Dan seeks to leverage his experience advocating on behalf of clients to maximize clients’ insurance assets consistently with their business needs. To this end, Dan regularly assists clients in structuring their insurance programs and counsels clients in complex insurance advisory matters. Because insurance disputes often arise under inopportune circumstances, Dan works with clients to structure and negotiate their insurance programs with the aim of ensuring that the form and content of those programs are consistent with clients’ expectations.

Dan regularly conducts insurance coverage audits on behalf of clients, identifying potential risks, gaps in coverage and areas for enhancement. Dan represents and counsels clients concerning a broad range of coverage programs across the spectrum of business risks, including:

  • Directors and officers liability
  • Fiduciary liability
  • Employment practices liability
  • Media liability
  • Representations and warranties
  • Cyber-liability
  • Bankers’ professional liability
  • Professional liability
  • Environmental impairment and stop-loss
  • Fidelity and financial institutions bonds
  • Product recall
  • General liability
  • Builders risk and Owner-controlled insurance programs
  • First-party property insurance

Because significant corporate transactions frequently have insurance implications, Dan also frequently counsels clients about the insurance implications of insolvency, mergers and acquisitions, corporate divestitures and other transactions and changes in corporate control.

Dan has represented clients in a broad range of industries, including financial services, banking, media and publishing, hospitality and gaming, private equity, mortgage banking, utilities, retail, food and consumer goods, biotechnology and manufacturing.

Prior to joining Culhane Meadows, Dan practiced at several prominent regional and global law firms representing policyholders. He began his career serving as an Assistant Corporation Counsel in the New York City Law Department, where he focused on commercial and civil rights litigation. He subsequently served as a law clerk for a judge in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois before entering private practice.

Dan is a frequent speaker and writer on insurance-related matters. Dan has served as the update editor of a leading insurance law treatise and regularly authors client updates on a wide range of insurance topics of interest to commercial policyholders. He also has conducted in-house training programs on directors and officers and fidelity insurance and claim notice practices for a number of clients.
