David Jacoby to Present at First Annual Accessories Council Summit

“Data: The Dark Side” will be the subject of a presentation by Culhane Meadows partner David Jacoby at the First Annual Accessories Council Summit on July 27 in New York.  Mr. Jacoby is the only lawyer scheduled to speak during a day-long series of presentations by famous and notable players in fashion, retail and media, among other fields. The event is co-sponsored by the Accessories Council, an industry group devoted to promoting the fashion accessoires industry, national fashion business publication Women’s Wear Daily, LIM College of New York, focusing excusively on fashion and business, and NPD Group, the prominent national marketing information and business strategy consulting firm.

“The Accessories Council organized this first annual Summit to highight a rapidly evolving marketplace.  Over the last decade and even more so in the last five years there has been a major change to what, where and how we sell product.  The mission of this event is to bring together some of the best leaders and thinkers in the industry to discuss the direction the industry is going in,” said Accessories Council President Karen Giberson.

Mr. Jacoby’s talk will focus on three areas where data can get fashion and other firms into legal hot water and suggest what steps businesses should take to avoid problems.  The three areas are: (1) giving notice of data gathering and how the data will be used; (2) risks in the evovling use of “Big Data” to classify and target consumers; and (3) data breach notification issues.  The discussion also will include Federal Trade Commission enforcement actions in the data privacy area as well as state laws.

Other scheduled speakers include: Ivanka Trump, founder of the Ivanka Trump Collection and Executive Vice President for Acquisitions and Development of the Trump Organization; Dave Gilboa, co-founder and co-CEO of Warby Parker; Marshal Cohen, chief industry analyst at NPD Group; Mary Beech, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of Kate Spade & Company; Marcelle Parrish, Head of Brand Strategy for eBay Fashions; senior editors of InStyle, Marie Claire and Women’s Wear Daily; costume designers from The Good Wife, Girls and Orange is the New Black; and chef Dominique Ansel, the creator of the cronut.

According to the sponsors, the Summit will foster new relationships; educate fashion professionals on the changing landscape of retail, media, design and marketing; and inspire innovation across the industry.

The Summit will be held at LIM College on Manhattan’s West 53rd Street and followed by the Accessories Council “Hall of Fame” event honoring Ed Jankowski, who heads Luxottica’s North American luxury division.

Admission to the Summit and the Hall of Fame event is by paid registration or invitation only.  Tickets are still available.
